UCLA League of Legends Junior Varsity defeated University of Southern California with a score of 2-0 at the PACG: Rivals LAN Tournament on Saturday. The Bruins dominated their opponents in front of the live audience and ended the series with just two 30 minute game
Nathan “Rebel Riven” March said he was confident that the Bruins would emerge victorious. March’s confidence proved correct since UCLA easily took the series.
UCLA’s team composition in the first game consisted of Camille, Olaf, Syndra, Xayah, and Rakan. USC drafted Vladimir, Zac, Orianna, Twitch, and Janna.

Charlie “cdp98us” Pitteway’s early counter-jungling allowed the Bruins to push up and play aggressive in their lanes. USC’s Zac scrambled to defend his jungle from Pitteway which prevented him from properly pressuring lanes. UCLA was able to establish a significant gold and XP lead as a result and Nathan “Rebel Riven” March took advantage of Zac’s low pressure by solo-killing USC’s Vladimir. March went on to maintain this lead and solo-kill his laner throughout the mid-game.
Along with the Top and Jungle advantage, Patrick “Bachit” Le’s Syndra became a huge threat after he assisted his teammates in multiple skirmishes. In the mid-game, Le’s insane damage gave Zach “Kizuku” Zhao the opportunity to engage relentlessly, knowing that his team would be able to obliterate their opponents. Le finished game one with an impressive 14 KDA ratio.
UCLA drafted Ornn, Trundle, Orianna, Ezreal, and Braum for game two while USC’s composition consisted of Dr. Mundo, Zac, Ryze, Caitlyn, and Lulu.

Pitteway displayed superb objective control throughout the game by securing 3 Drakes for the Bruins. Additionally, his DPS in skirmishes allowed UCLA to take the lead in the mid-game. Benjamin “THICC Daddy Flex” Luu maintained incredible vision control which enabled UCLA to secure Baron uncontested.
With their Baron, UCLA quickly overpowered USC. Le’s incredible 4-man Shockwave decimated USC at their bottom inhibitor and allowed the Bruins to end the game just three minutes after securing Baron.
The Bruins felt that USC did not put up much of a fight despite some members claiming that their individual play was sub-par during the series. Benjamin Luu said he was surprised that the casters did not “roast” him for his questionable one-man dive in the bottom lane. In the end, UCLA was able to overpower USC despite the fact their play was slightly uncoordinated.
UCLA will play against Washington State University in their next PACG match Tuesday.
