With the announcement of Collegiate World of Warcraft in 2017, UCLA stepped into unfamiliar territory. Forming a team very quickly, UCLA would be one of only two schools to feature a roster entirely from one college.

Qualifying for playoffs with a 12th place finish of the top 16, UCLA would lose their opening match 0-2 to California State University - Chico. Dropping down into the loser's bracket, the upstart Bruins would upset Carleton University in the first game before losing the next two to be eliminated from playoffs.
