UCLA League of Legends was formed by the desire of 5 friends who wanted to play and compete together. Soon thereafter, UCLA featured one of the strongest teams not only in college, but on a professional level, featuring current pro players Rafael "Rakin" Knittel and William "Stunt" Chen. The team would qualify for Riot's expansion tournament as one of the top ranked challenger teams, where they lost to Team Coast.
After losing both Knittel and Chen to the professional leagues, UCLA League of Legends picked up then-freshman and former semi-pro David "LightSludge" Hong and mastier tier player Anthony "5mi" Hong, solidifying its roster with former UCLA League of Legends B top laner Daniel "EmperorOng" Ong as the jungler and high diamond players Calvin Liu and Albert Cho.
Suffering a bitter defeat to powerhouse University of California, Irvine in Riot's University League of Legends season, UCLA League of Legends aims to return to the top in the 2017-2018 season.
