Open Letter to the Esports @UCLA Community

To the Esports at UCLA community,

When I first envisioned Esports at UCLA, in my mind I wanted to create a self-sufficient organization that brought different talents together to give competitive esports at UCLA its chance in the spotlight. I am proud to say that we have worked hard to achieve that goal and that, while we have a long way to go until we meet our lofty expectations, we are well on the path with original weekly content.

With this in mind, I have decided to greatly expand Esports at UCLA's capabilities and involvement in the UCLA gaming community. We will not be a direct descendant of the Association of UCLA Gamers (AUGment), which was active for the 2016-2017 school year. Instead, we will focus exclusively on hosting exciting events for UCLA students, alumni, and faculty gamers instead of actively operating as a club.

We have decided to forego meetings or membership dues (although we may end up changing this based on demand) and will focus exclusively on working directly with all the wonderful sponsors who have reached out to us to host LANs, gatherings of the gaming community, and sponsored viewing parties as well as giveaways such as free tickets, Blizzard swag, and other exciting items in raffles. We will also be working closely with UCLA Learning Center to host events in and around the hill.

We look forward to increasing our inclusivity with the greater UCLA gaming community while continuing to provide support and opportunity for our competitive athletes and team members. We will be accepting applications for Esports @UCLA interns for spring quarter, and are currently slated to begin announcing exciting giveaways in the next few weeks to celebrate our first steps into being a social club, and will be announcing our full event lineup in Spring quarter!

Please stay tuned for more news regarding our expansion here at Esports at UCLA. If you are an individual who shares in our vision of a united gaming community at UCLA, please consider applying to our internship program! If you have any questions on how you can be involved, please email us and we will respond ASAP at esportsucla@gmail.com!

Thank you for your time friends, and let's build a wonderful community

together!

Your president,

Sunny Yen
