UCLA League of Legends Junior Varsity was eliminated from playoffs in the Collegiate Starleague tournament on March 24. The Bruins were defeated by Butler University, ending the series with a score of 1-2.

The JV squad had an exceptional run in CSL’s tournament. They maintained a flawless record during the regular season, achieving a record of 7-0 in their conference. The Bruins proceeded to defeat the University of Houston D Team in the first round of playoffs before losing to Butler.

While they were disappointed that their playoff run is over, the Bruins were happy with their overall performance this season. Junwei “OmaeWaMoShinderu” He said that the season was a great learning experience. “I think we can come back stronger next season and be a top JV team,” He added.

The Bruins also said that their coach, Albert Lee, contributed to the team’s success. Benjamin Luu added that Lee’s coaching taught them to “stomp their games” and that they would not have made it far into the tournament without him. Reviewing team VODs and improving the team’s early game coordination and macro strategy were a few of the key ways Coach Lee helped the team.

Though their run in CSL’s tournament has come to an end, the JV team continues to participate in the PACG competition. This Saturday the Bruins will face off against the USC Trojans at a LAN tournament on USC’s campus. The tournament will feature both League of Legends and Overwatch matches between the two rival schools.

Coach Lee is confident that the team is well-prepared for the upcoming match due to their previous tournament experience. Additionally, Lee stated that they have practiced with in-house scrims to further prepare themselves for this weekend. Luu illustrated his team’s confidence going into the match by saying, “We're gonna %&$# up USC 100%”.

UCLA’s PACG match against USC will take place on April 7th. Tickets are free and available on the Esports @ UCLA’s Facebook event page.
