The League of Legends preseason is ending, and the UCLA Bruins B Team is preparing for the upcoming 2018 competitive season. A roster of both new and returning players will compete in the Collegiate Star League Spring 2018 Junior Varsity Series and play against University teams across the country.

New players are adjusting to the team environment by improving communication. “Being in comms with other players has been the newest thing for me--just trying to coordinate my actions with my teammates has been a tough but rewarding experience,” said Benjamin “THICC Daddy Flex” Luu.

Fortunately, UCLA B Team has a positive attitude going into this upcoming season. Junwei “OmaeWaMoShinderu” said, the team will “try their best and hopes to learn and improve from each game”.

Nathan “Rebel Riven” March said that practice has, “been going smoothly.” He added, “we are all trying to win and don't get mad at each other or flame when we lose.”

The team is preparing for the competitive season by playing in scrims together and practicing in

SoloQ matches. Studying macro-strategies and reviewing VODs have also helped players improve their performance.

Blake “Dryadalus” Kazarian said these preparations have made him aware of flaws and mistakes in his play. Kazarian added, “I've been trying to fix the problems that make me a burden to my teammates, and I think I've made good progress towards that.”

Players felt specific champion(s) or recent game changes would have an impact on the competitive season. Luu predicts that hyper-carries, such as Vayne and Kog’Maw, will see more competitive play because of the coordinated team environment and Vayne’s strength on the current patch.

Richard “ellenisameIon” Guo also thought that rune changes will make AD carries play safer because junglers and supports are stronger.

The UCLA League of Legends B Team will play their second match of the season on Jan. 20th against the University of Wisconsin - Fox Valley, having already scored a 2-0 victory over New Mexico State University.
