UCLA Blue Eliminated from Hearthstone Tespa Training Grounds Championship

Congratulations to UCLA Blue players Shawn “Triton” Footitt, Riley “Dovahcain” Dunne, and Sennan “kinix” Sulaiman for their stellar performances throughout the Tespa fall season that earned UCLA the title of Western Region Champions. Unfortunately, UCLA lost to Texas Tech University in the first match of the Tespa Training Grounds Tournament semifinals.
In the first out of the best of 11 rounds, UCLA had dominant control of the board with their Warrior deck, until Texas Tech University turned it around and won with their Paladin deck. After a misclick that caused Texas Tech to hit their own face with fireball, UCLA won game two with their Paladin deck. The Bruins then continued to win the next round with their rogue deck. In round four, UCLA strategically played their Priest deck against Texas Tech University’s Druid deck to secure another victory. Texas Tech then made a comeback, as they won the next two rounds to tie the set up with an overall score of 3-3.
In the seventh round, UCLA maintained control of board for the whole match to secure the team another victory. At this point in the tournament, any losses suffered by a team would eliminate a player of the team’s choosing from the competition. Texas Tech University lost their first player, but won the next two rounds as a two player team, eliminating UCLA players kinix and Dovachain from the tournament. Triton was the last player left and had to a win in the tenth round to secure UCLA a spot in the next set of the championship. Unfortunately, UCLA Blue was unable to beat Texas Tech’s mage deck in the final round of the semifinals. UCLA Blue qualified for regional playoffs, won the Western Region Champion title, and earned the chance compete in the Tespa Collegiate season’s championships. Though UCLA Blue lost the first round of Tespa Training Grounds Tournament semifinals, the team put up a fight and Esports @UCLA look forward to UCLA Blue’s future performance. Go Bruins!
