Last night, UCLA Hearthstone Teams Blue and Gold competed against San Francisco State University and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo respectively. Both teams experienced close games as they took it to game five in the best of five. Due to experiencing bad luck, both teams could not come out victorious in their matches.
Both UCLA teams opted to bring an Evolve Shaman, Jade Druid, and Midrange Hunter decks to play in yesterday’s games. UCLA emerged successful with their Jade Druid and Evolve Shaman decks. Unfortunately, both teams experienced the tragic parallel of losing in game five with their Midrange Hunter decks.
In Hearthstone Blue’s game against SFSU, it could be said the match-determining play that led to their lost occurred in game four. The crucial decision necessary for victory was determining when to drop Bittertide Hydra. The decision was determined by the team to be an “essential guess” and, unluckily, the team was unable to roll snake eyes in the final game last night. In the following game, Hearthstone Blue wanted to “explode early” in order to emerge victorious but instead fell short in their close loss.
Last night, Hearthstone Gold delivered a difficult match for their opponents in their debut game of the season. The Bruins on the Gold team were able to properly adapt to their opponent and find victory in several games last night. One of the games was won by out lasting their opponent in a nail-biting finish while another through managing to hold early tempo and convert it into another victory. However, their streak of game wins was broken in game five when a factor as simple as not being able to draw lethal caused them to lose against Cal Poly’s Hearthstone team.
Keep your heads up high Bruins! After all, according to UCLA Blue’s team manager, Shawn “Triton” Footitt, “a perfect record is impossible in a game of statistics and random effects like Hearthstone."
The Hearthstone teams have easily demonstrated they are by no means a free victory for their opponents. Be sure to check back for news on future victories as your Hearthstone Bruins compete throughout the rest of the collegiate season.
